On December 4, 2024, the Southern Regional Center for Industrial Development Technical Support, in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH), SSC, Techfest, and Agtek, hosted the “2024 Textile and Footwear Business Connection” workshop.
The event attracted over 150 experts, speakers, and businesses in the textile and footwear industries, providing a platform to exchange insights, promote sustainable practices, and explore new technologies.

The workshop aimed to summarize consultation and support programs for businesses in the textile and footwear supporting industries in 2024. It also provided insights into the latest trends and promoted products from these industries. Moreover, the event facilitated B2B networking opportunities, fostering strategic cooperation to enhance competitiveness.
In his opening speech, Mr. Lê Xuân Thọ, Acting Director of the Southern Regional Center for Industrial Development Technical Support, emphasized:
“This workshop aims to create significant momentum for the sustainable development of the textile and footwear industries. A key focus is raising awareness about the dual transformation—combining digital and green transitions—to meet the growing environmental and production efficiency standards demanded by international markets. Additionally, the workshop acts as a crucial bridge for businesses to establish sustainable partnerships, optimize supply chains, and enhance product value.”
He further noted the economic significance of the textile and footwear industries:
“These industries not only contribute significantly to national export revenues but also generate millions of jobs, stabilizing and fostering socio-economic development. However, in the context of deep international integration and stringent market demands, businesses must seek solutions to improve quality, enhance supply chain value, and expand collaboration opportunities.”
Expert Insights and Strategic Cooperation in the Textile and Footwear Industries
During the workshop, Dr. Phạm Thị Hồng Phượng from HCMC University of Industry discussed the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s project, which selected and supported 20 out of 40 textile and footwear enterprises. The initiative aimed to enhance production capacity, product quality, and connect businesses with potential domestic and international partners.
Mr. Hahm Wan-Gyu, Director of the Textile Technology Development Center at KITECH, introduced new technologies in textiles, including industrial fibers like TLCP, PET, SiC, and biodegradable materials. Meanwhile, Mr. Kim Tae Woo, CEO of FITI Testing & Research Institute, highlighted concerns surrounding microplastics in textiles and their environmental implications.
The event culminated in a panel discussion on the dual transformation and the need for business connections in Vietnam’s textile supply chain. Experts shared practical experiences, addressing questions from enterprises about participating in global supply chains and implementing sustainable and digital solutions.

The workshop featured strategic MOU signings between the Southern Regional Center for Industrial Development Technical Support, the HCMC Textile Embroidery Association, and various businesses. These agreements aim to bolster competitiveness in both domestic and international markets.
